ಯಕ್ಷಗಾನ ಗೀತ-ವಾದ್ಯ-ನೃತ್ಯಗಳ ಸಮ್ಮಿಶ್ರ ಕಲೆ. ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ತರ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಂiಲ್ಲಿ ಮನೆಮಾತಾಗಿರುವ ಈ ಬಯಲಾಟದ ಕಲೆ ತನ್ನದೇ ಆದ ವೈಶಿಷ್ಟ್ಯವನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಬಯಲುನಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು `ಮೂಡಲ ಪಾಯ' ಎಂದು ಕರೆದರೆ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ `ಪಡುವಲ ಪಾಯ' ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪಡುವಲ ಪಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ತೆಂಕ ತಿಟ್ಟು ಹಾಗೂ ಬಡಗ ತಿಟ್ಟು ಎಂಬ ಎರಡು ಪ್ರಭೇದಗಳಿದ್ದು, ಇವುಗಳು ಮೂಲಸ್ವರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದೇ ಆಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಬೆಳೆದು ಬಂದ ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಪರಿಸರ ಭಿನ್ನತೆಯಿಂದ ಈ ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ಬಳಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದಿವೆ. ಇದು ಹವ್ಯಾಸಿ ಕಲೆಯಾಗಿರುವಂತೆ ವೃತ್ತಿಕಲೆಯೂ ಆಗಿದೆ.
